Ο καφές εισήχθη στη Γουατεμάλα γύρω στα μέσα του 17ου αιώνα ως διακοσμητικό φυτό. WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN?
Coffee was introduced to Guatemala around the middle of the 17th century as an ornamental plant. Coffee cultivation didn't take off until the 1860s, when Guatemala's natural dye industry was overtaken by synthetic products and a new economy had to be introduced to save the economy.
Thus, the government encouraged the cultivation of coffee plantations, and coffee quickly became the country's largest export. Around 1960, coffee farmers formed their own union, now known as Anacafe. The organization was responsible for research, marketing and financial support for the farmers. It also sought to improve the lives of farmers in rural areas. The coffee industry in Guatemala is currently very large, and there are over 125,000 producers in the country
